Long Weekend...
I had a long weekend! I took Friday off. My whole family took it off. So we went to chadstone. So annoying the shoes were on crazy sales yet they were short on my size. VERY VERY annoying. anyway i guess it wasn't meant to be.
Friday night was JUST AWESOME. The med group went to Kev's 21st. it was just fantastic! It was almost like a 'ball' except we didn't have to pay $85 for a ticket! the DJ music was great. Lots of dancing that night. *FUN*. And free alcohol. (thanks kev!) Not that I drank much. Took plenty of photos. Too bad, as a result of that, I couldn't make it to another friend's 21st. Sacrifices must be made at times... such is life.

(kev's little cousins are very very cute... so many of them.. here are THREE of them)

HAPPY BDAY KEV!
Saturday was good too. Badminton with church friends was fun~ Had a lot of hits. Then we went to bubble tea. Went to Hawthorn "shang hai tan" for dinner with family. The food was really unique. Most are good. The spicey dishes were great ~ Very spicy!
Sunday was a family day also. After church, we went up to mount dand. It wasn't fun driving up because there was a fire truck in front of a queue of car. Couldn't drive fast =( Anyway, we met up with some family friends to have BBQ. Took some breaths of mountain fresh air and ate some oily, fatty food. Then I went to play tennis near my friend's place. It was good fun~ A bit of karaoke at his house.
Don't do med!
I often wonder why I'm doing med... like WHY? why am i so narrow-minded? from a kid, I've always wanted to be a doctor - not knowing what it really means to be one... maybe it's an Asian thing...
For the past two days, 3 doctors have tried to persuade me to quit med. (rrrright..) Yesterday, 2 orthopaedic surgeons were scrubbing in and they had a minute to talk to me. "which year are you? 3rd year? you can quit now. not too late" And i was like "why? isn't it rewarding?" They said it's hard work and not rewarding. If you're smart enough to get into med, you can get the same pay (if not more) with other jobs. Patients are unreasonable. They expect too much. etc etc etc........... On a positive note, they said 'it's not toooo bad...'
FANTASTIC.
Then today, an Asian female anaesthetist was telling me how crap it is to work in such a health care system, where patients expect too much. They *blame* people when things go wrong. "it'll only get worse... quit before it's too late"
EVEN MORE FANTASTIC.
.......... Anyway no way that i'm quitting. I'm not the kind that just quits in the middle of something. Plus, i can't imagine myself doing anything else. I like the feeling of SECURITY. At least i'm guaranteed a job at the end of this... And it ought to be a fulfilling job... i mean.... I "HELP PEOPLE".... @_@.....
your friendly neighbourhood S.T.D.
for those of you who *still* don't know, stephanie, Dora and I are working together in the same unit at RCH. We now have a mentor - one of the nicest anaesthetists - aka "CB". (yip, the one who tried to learn Hokkien swear words - only to find it's his initials)
Today us three sat down to write down the objectives of our AMS year. We sent it to CB and at the end of it, we attached a picture that I drew on the whiteboard. Shown below:

And we signed off as "your friendly neighbourhood S.T.D.". I'm sure he had a good laugh as he was reading it.... He asked if we were contagious...
LOL....
As for my project, it's getting harder now. We're close to starting the actual data collecting but we haven't finalised the detail as yet. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO ASSESS how awake a patient is after he/she wakes up from the anaesthetic? Some suggestions were: ask them a command question. SIF a 2 year old will wake up in a good mood and wave "bye bye" as you command. *ARGH*... wat do to wat to do...... Gotta start thinking.... I bet you the nurses will hate me fairly soon. The thing is they prefer that patients wake up themselves. HOwever, as part of my study, I need to try to wake them up at time X and assess if they're awake and match that to the number on the BIS monitor (an equipment to test how awake a person is).
*SIGH* ... so far, the nuses are pretty nice... but not for long - i know it!
oh and 40 min train rides don't feel as long when I train with friends~ In the morning, there was albert & sharon Hii. on the way home, I trained with Kat and we had a good chat - a lot to do with cell. Should hold cell leaders meetings on the train!
Anyway... hmm.... not much else to say....
Haven't blogged for a while...
Hi - those who STILL read my blog...
Yeh i haven't been blogging coz I'm too lazy. It's too much of an effort. And I don't wanna blog in my own office - in case some day my supervisor checks my history and realises what I've been saying about him....
Anyway yes my supervisor. I listened to his presentation on Friday. It basically summarises his thesis (part of the requirement of getting his doctarine of medicine). It was great~ I didn't realise that he can actually be funny. He put up the photo of Mr Bean (the stationary NAKED one) - as I suggested. (well yeh i kinda suggested it in the office when he was doing his powerpoint...) Man - it was so funny when I saw it - I didn't know he *actually* did put it up.........ha ha...
And yeh i realised he's actually quite famous. one of his paper was awarded the best paper of the year or something... man, I've gotta feel a bit priviledged to be his ams student.
Anyway enough said about that.
After the presentation, Steph, YN and I roamed in the city~ Visited Tiffany & Co and how I wish I was rich sometimes... ha ha... Must get myself one of the rings some time. but is it too sad to buy your own ring? Anyway then we went to Kookai. On one hand, Steph is making me try on dresses to "amuse" her. On the other, YN was assisting me to try on clothes. It was a lot of fun~ ha ha... Kookai dresses actually fit me. But then i have no money these days... So didn't buy anything. Then YN left us. Steph and I did more shopping. tried on many dresses at Cheeka or something. Then went to European Design Sales - tried on some prada puffy jackets. I looked weird in those.
8pm: We finally made it to Marriot Hotel for Brian's 21st. It was so classy~ I didnt really dress up to match the classiness of the venue. Never mind~ ha ha... it was a lot of fun... nice "finger" food. I didn't even eat dinner before i went. (no $$) The speeches were ... funny... but i didn't get some of the jokes... i only understood the "i wanna eat Sushi".
Anyway here's some photos:
