What if there's no ranking in med?

ha ha.. some people seem very disturbed by the Mr Bean picture. I'M SORRY - I made a mistake. I think the one on my sup's computer is the Stationary one (see below). So I've changed the picture now. is it better?

I was talking to this Adelaide final year medical student. She was telling me how her uni doesn't have a scoring system for medical students. Ie. everything is just a hurdle. if you fail, you repeat the year. So how do they get selected to internship? Well, apparently they get some written assessments from the doctors that they've worked with and they have an entrance interview. apparently many schools are slowly adopting that system. Results don't count for internship, Specialty training selection etc etc....

I was just thinking. WHOAH. what if I was in Adelaide Medical School? what if exams don't count? what if i don't need to learn anatomy? ha ha.. What if there's no competitions in med? My dad argues that it's crap. and it produces bad doctors. Don't know. whats your thoughts?

My supervisor looks like Mr Bean...

NOTICE: Picture has been changed to the APPROPRIATE one.

Yes it's been confirmed...

I thought it was only the illusion of Dora and Steph. They kept telling me mysupervisor looks like Mr Bean. Where I insist he looks more like Red Simon...

Yesterday, My sup was going through some pictures on his computer and came across this naked man! I was disturbed. Then I realised it was MR BEAN!

So I asked him "do people think you look like Mr bean?"
He said "years ago, people used to say i look like Mr Bean on a daily basis."
LOL LOL LOL..............

"Not red simon?"
"Nah... He's actually a mean person. He brought his children to the hospital once..."

Anyway, yeh there you go. ha ha...

This photo actually sort of portrays my sup quite well...

ha ha.. but i think my sup has lost a lot of weight now. So he's no longer called Mr Bean...

ha ha... but he is a funny guy...

Cannulate & Intubate~

Long time no blog... Hows everyone going??

Well yeh as my title suggests, I got to cannulate and intubate today~ First time~ Cannulation was kinda "easier" than normal because the vein was MASSIVE. I was told that when there's big vein, I have to say "dog's ball"... Who knows why... Intubate was okay. except the baby's Oxygen Saturation went down to 41... *GASP* but I was sure that I put the tube in the trachea. I guess I just took a bit too long. It went back up to 97 after a few more pumps of the bag. (I'm sorry if you can't picture / understand this...) ANYWAY ...

The Anaesthetic Doctor was learning how to swear in Hokkien from the (singaporean?) plastic surgeon registrar. And the registrar suggested that he shortens it to " C B ". 15 seconds later, the Anaesthetic Dr goes "Thats my initials!!" We just cracked up laughing...

I guess the equivalent swear words in Canto would be "P K"?

ANYWAY...

So much to do! I've gotta write this 1000 word project outline and submit to Uni... Meh.... It's harder than I thought. I can't just copy and paste from the protocol....... I better stop PROCRASTANATING...

AMS - going fabulously well~

Yip I did my oral presentation on Thursday and it went fabulously well. There were basically 3 people: my supervisor, a statistic department representative, a med friend. So I wasn't nervous at all. It was a powerpoint presentation.

And the stats person gave good suggestions to my supervisor about how to collect and analyse the data.

And now I get to start my research. Today, I just followed up 9 patients. Worked out the amount of time taken for them to wake up after the anaesthetic gas is turned off. It ranges from 6 mins to 40 mins... gets a bit boring when you just watch them sleep... made ME sleepy too. ha ha...

Oh and I went Tai-boxing today. Lots of fun~ Very good work out!!! I must go again!!

Deep Quote from Jez...

"Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you're right"

my favourite favourite, huggable toy at the gift shop @ RCH... $47. even with $10 staff discount - i can't afford it....

Dunno what to write...

I really don't know what to write.... i could tell you about the oral presentation that i'm working on at the moment. I could tell you how my supervisor reckons the worse i do it, the more help we can get from the statistic department. I could tell you that I've joined the group gym classes at uni. I could tell you that i tried hip pop funk dance class. I could also tell you that i dressed up as catwoman for Pansy's 21st. I could tell you that I tried to catch the belgrave/lilydale line by getting on mitcham station and i managed to travel from home to RCH in ONE HOUR (a record). I could tell you that I am going through some rough patches but please don't be alarmed and you need not comfort me. I could tell you that I really want to buy this pendant but I still haven't. I could also tell you that I want boots - which all girls should have. I could tell you that I wanna buy this $95 jacket which has a diagonal zip...

WORKING on my oral presentation today...
